In my support group, I was having difficulty finding my voice. Slowly, I began to feel safe and learned to trust others with my feelings. I found that as I spoke in group, not only was I empowering myself, but others would join in and together we grew stronger.
Victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault often feel very alone, and that no one can understand or relate to their experiences. You are not alone.
Support groups can be a place to learn coping skills and lend support to others. You can also gain strength from others in your group.
Support groups can cover topics such as:
- Healing from trauma
- Surviving traumatic experiences
- Building self esteem
